Check out the Museum Loan Network, based at MIT. They are putting many
on-line directories into one index (and also have grants to promote
inter-museum loans and to index electronically museum collections. ) They
have recently expanded from art museums to history, culture, and other types
of collections. Any museum can get a pass word to access the on-line
directories and search engine (assuming they are working). MLN's web
address is http://loanet.mit.edu/
