I saw the Melbourne display a few years ago and thought it was wonderful. I
seem to remember too, that there was a figure you could construct from a box
full of bits. The most popular passtime semed to be, among the six-to
eight-year-olds, to see whether one could plug what is locally referred to as
the 'doodle' into an ear socket or, conversely, attach an ear to the pubis.

There was also a clever display of what happens to a a hamburger from the
time it enters the mouth until it reaches the sewage farm - all those things
children REALLY want to know and which adults somehow seem unable - though
ignorance, impatience or embarrasment - to explain.

Seriously, it was one of the best educational displays I have ever seen, as
was testified to by the astounding amount of noise the children were
generating and the relieved look on the face of many teachers who knew that
they had been saved countless hours of explantion by an excellent and
intelligently thought out exhibition. I like to hope that that is a lot of
what exhibitions for children should be about.

I am delighted to hear that a revamp is to open in 2000 - best of luck!

Nick
