It is clear that this issue has struck a cord with more than one list
member.

As such, it strongly suggests that this is an appropriate subject for a
museum exhibit to explore (and therefore for a museum to consider
collecting).  I also suspect that the curator of such an exhibit would need
armor plated undergarments (possibly war booty?)

Clearly we have raised the issues of what items constitutes “legal” war
souvenirs, and many suggestions have been made for sources for current
regulations.  Any responsible curator tries to understand the regulations
regarding items they may acquire for their collections, be they Native
American remains, feathers from endangered species, or war artifacts.  They
would also need to have some understanding of the emotional response that
any such exhibit could gain, would hopefully present such artifacts in a
balanced educating manner.
