NEH: EXTENDING THE REACH OF THE HUMANITIES ACROSS AMERICA

One of the highest priorities of the National Endowment for the Humanities
is to make the power and inspiration of the humanities accessible to all
Americans. Extending the Reach is a special initiative to provide new
resources for creative teaching, scholarship, public programming, and
preservation efforts in the humanities by:

* supporting humanities initiatives in selected U.S. states and
territories that have not received as much NEH support as others;
* enhancing work in the humanities at Historically Black,
Hispanic-serving, and Tribal colleges and universities.

OUTREACH TO SELECTED STATES AND TERRITORIES

Nonprofit cultural and educational organizations in the following states and
Puerto Rico may apply for Extending the Reach grants in 2000 and 2001:

Alabama
Alaska
Florida
Idaho
Louisiana
Missouri

Nevada
North Dakota
Ohio
Oklahoma

Organizations that have not recently received an NEH grant are especially
encouraged to apply to three new grant programs:

associations, and film or radio producers in the early stages of developing
a project or institutional planning. Guidelines and application materials

*Preservation Assistance Grants
Help libraries, archives, museums and historical organizations
assess preservation needs and enhance their ability to care for their
humanities collections. Guidelines and application materials are available
here <http://www.neh.gov/pdf/guidelines/er-presassist.pdf>.
Humanities Scholar-in-Residence Grants

humanities scholar from a local college or university over the course of a
