Hey Deb,

As a former teacher, well I am still certified I just don't teach anymore, I can tell you what it means. Don't misconstrue, I think the jargon has taken over the teaching process (one reason I don't teach).

In "today's" educational system it is required to find out how each child learns and tailor the lesson to meet the needs of the individual child. Okay, sounds good so far, right?

The problem is, only 2 of the 30 kids in the classroom are visual learners, so do you skip over the others' learning processes or do you skip over the 2? It is impossible to meet all the learning styles of all the children in every class. If you find a student in need of extra work because the text you provide has not stuck, even though they have read it four times, then you need to find a different method for this student. THAT is teaching.

Now-a-days, each teacher should be certified in social work, as well as, education. I could go on. Teaching is about making the material required by law to be implanted in those young minds interesting, palatable and hopefully stick longer than the 45 minutes you have to teach it in. I could go on and on, but I won't. Most of you have already abandoned my soap-box, another issue I have with our 15 minute attention spans, so I will pass my position to the next educator who wishes to chime in.
