Greetings All,

I would like to hear your opinions about accessioning batteries into the permanent collection. I am talking about flash light batteries, large radio batteries, etc. some of these are from the Civil Defense era so are already a number of years old. Do you do this? Why or why not? If you do accept them to you store them in any special containers? Batteries have been added to our permanent collection in the past but we are now wondering if that is something we want to continue to do given their tendency to corrode. While the batteries are interesting does that out way the risks of battery acid leaking into your collections storage? Or is this really no greater risk than many of the other items found in general history collections.

I would be interested to hear all thoughts and opinions on or off list.

As always, thanks for sharing your vast knowledge.
