MUSEUM REGISTRAR 

Closing Date:  November 15, 2010 

Salary Range: $4,006 - $5,008/monthly  

JOB SUMMARY:  The Museum Registrar focuses heavily on curatorial duties relating to collections management, acquisition, research, interpretation, and exhibition.  You will be responsible for documenting the accession and deaccession of artifacts into and out of the museum collection; creating and maintaining legal documents related to objects in the collection; and preserving the collection and ensuring that all objects receive proper care.  The successful candidate also makes sure that the public has meaningful access to the collection through exhibits and programs, and provides highly responsible assistance to the Cultural Services Division Manager.  

This position requires excellent public speaking and other related skills needed to elicit community and organizational support for various museum programs, the ability to operate the museum’s (FileMaker Pro) and other automated collections management software, and knowledge of the principles and procedures of a museum’s collections program. 

REGULAR 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in art, history, anthropology, museum studies or a related field.  Four years of museum collection and registration experience including two years of administrative or lead responsibility. 

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:  Graduate degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in history, art history, anthropology, or museum studies.  Two or more years of curatorial experience including donor relations, exhibition development, and collections planning.  Working knowledge of XSLT and the reference materials needed to publish Internet pages using this code.
