Sunday, June 9 1996 will be the last day of the Wisconsin Veterans Museum's
exhibition of noted artist Santos Zingale's World War II sketches. Zingale,
a Milwaukee native known for his depression-era WPA murals prior to the war,
entered the US Navy in 1944 and served aboard the USS Bremerton. It was
while serving on the Bremerton that Zingale drew the exhibited sketches,
which poignantly capture daily lives of US Navy sailors in World War II.
After the war, Zingale joined the art faculty at the University of
Wisconsin. He retired in 1978.
