PARK CITY MUSEUM-INTERNSHIP ANNOUNCEMENT

The Park City Museum in Park City, Utah has immediate openings for graduate
students as History and Cultural Heritage interns. The successful candidates
will assist with all aspects of the museum's operations. Depending on
background and skills, interns may work in one or more area of the museum
with administration, education, curatorial, public relations, development,
and/or collections. 

The Park City Museum reopened after an $8.9 million renovation and expansion
in Oct 2009 and serves a variety of visitors, including the local community
and tourists. The collection is remarkably diverse in type and size and
museum programs include school and youth groups, tours, lectures and
classes, family activities, and special events.

This internship will give students an opportunity to acquire practical
experience in the museum field. Interns assist staff with educational
programming, care of artifacts and archival materials, and museum
administration including museum store and fundraising. Previous internship
project examples have included designing a Main Street walking tour,
researching historic homes for our annual home tour, cataloguing historic
photograph collections, and coordinating special events.
Qualifications
Strong organizational skills, writing skills, and standard office computer
skills are required. A basic knowledge and experience with artifact handling
techniques, PastPerfect software, working with a variety of museum visitors,
and an understanding of museum management procedures is preferred. The
successful candidate will have a background in history, education, museum
studies, communications and public relations or non-profit administration
and are pursuing or completed a Master's degree. He or she must be able to
climb ladders and lift up to 40 lbs. 

The internship will be 200 hours, to be completed in an 8-12 week time
period, and will have a $1,700 stipend.
