How about somebody applying the AAM definition of museum? Collections are not
the core - education and public service are. Collections are a means to an
end, not an end in themselves. That said, there is little to stand in the way
of the power of a real experience, whether it be with an object, a work of
art, a creature, a natural/physical phenomenon, the real world (actually
better than a museum object) or even an interesting experience shared with
others.

If specimens are the only criterion, the Rose Center (expanded and updated
Hayden Planetarium at the American Museum of Natural History in New York)
barely qualifies as a museum.
