Interesting. I am curious as to whether any history museums have
participated. We could be the first out of the gate.

WGBH Invites Museums to Create ZOOMzones

ZOOM, WGBH's Kid-Powered classic, returns to PBS for a second season,
premiering on January 4, 2000. Zoom is a daily, interactive television
series and Web site that challenges five- to eleven-year-olds to "turn off
the TV and do it!" Each thirty-minute program features a cast of seven
everyday kids playing games, performing plays, tackling science and math
activities, telling stories, reading poetry, solving brainteasers, whipping
up recipes, and having a good time as they bring to life contributions sent
in by viewers from across the country. Viewers can also interact with ZOOM
via the Web at pbskids.org/zoom and at ZOOMzones in museums nationwide.
Each
viewer who writes to or e-mails ZOOM receives a free ZOOMerang, a booklet of
do-ot-at-home projects, including science and math activities, crafts,
recipes, and games.

Museums are invited to create ZOOMzones in their own institutions. A
ZOOMzone is a place that recreates the look and feel of ZOOM, the new hit
PBS television series. It's a space where kids are encouraged to interact
with ZOOM's hands-on science and math activities, test their ideas, and
share
information with others.

Over the last two years, WGBH has worked with ten museums to pilot the
ZOOMzone concept. Some museums created stand-alone exhibits, while others
created portable ZOOMzone carts and rooms staffed by young volunteers.
Whether you're looking to expand your museum's hands-on science programming,
strengthen your youth program, or create a space that invites kids and their
parents to work together, a ZOOMzone can help you achieve your museum's
objectives.
