Law enforcement investigators have inquired after ways to mark fraudulent
works of art that must be returned to owners at the conclusion of an
investigation or trial.  The intent is to preserve the owners' property
rights while frustrating future resale of the objects as authentic.

I am interested to know how museum professionals view this problem, and
what they might consider acceptable and effective in terms of markings.
