Gail,

It is impossible to answer your question to any degree of specificity without
first examining the objects in question.

You should dust metal objects frequently with soft, natural bristle brushes
such as a "Lord Sheraton" or you can vacuam with a soft-bristle nozzle
attachment. Avoid wiping dust off with cloths as dust can be very abrasive
and you can actually abrade the surface of the objects by cleaning in this
way. Do not use water or cleaning solutions without first consulting with a
conservator.

You should have the objects which you have chosen for this exhibition
surveyed by an experienced metals or objects conservator. If you do not have
access to a conservator you can contact The American Institute for the
Conservation of Historic and Artistic Works at (202) 452-9545. They offer a
free referral service and can send you a computer generated list of objects
conservators in your region. They also offer a series of free information
brochures.
