Rachel,
Take a look at an article titled "An Outline for Building a Successful 
Consulting Practice with Nonprofit Clients" by Mary Case and Will Phillips 
which you'll find at www.qm2.org. Go go "Management Briefings" and then 
scroll down to "Leadership." You'll find great advice, interesting questions 
and real ideas to chew on. I'd be happy to talk to you about my own 
experiences as an independent for the past several years. Good luck.
