Position Opening: Manuscripts Curator, Library/Archives

Location: Lincoln, NE

Regular full-time
Salary (monthly): $2,608 -- $2,738 (depending on qualifications)
Schedule to be worked:             Generally Monday through Friday 8:00 AM –
 5:00 PM

Description of Essential Duties (Purpose or Objective of Job):
Performs tasks related to collection development, acquisition, appraisal,
preservation and storage of manuscript materials of enduring historical
value.  Maintains collections management records.  Develops collection
acquisition leads; confers with potential and actual donors.  Processes
archival materials and produces formal inventories and other descriptive
finding aids for manuscript collections; supervises others doing this
work.  Works with other Agency curators on management of cross-format
materials from private sources, and in developing and implementing
collections management procedures.  Develops procedures for electronic
records and their management, storage, and retrieval.  Provides reference
services and public outreach as needed.  Initiates and/or participates in
Division and Agency projects as needed.  Supervises one assistant curator
and volunteers, work/study students, and interns as available.  May have
occasional overnight stays and traveling.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Requirements:
Knowledge of archival collections management and preservation principles
and methodologies.  Ability to analyze, arrange, and describe complex and
significant private archival collections. Knowledge of current information
technologies and trends, and the collection, retrieval, and preservation of
same. Knowledge of database management systems such as Microsoft Access.
Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with staff,
potential and actual donors, and the public. Ability to creatively use
automation technologies in the performance of the job. Ability to operate
Society motor vehicles or provide independent transportation. Ability to
lift and carry up to 50 pounds.

Bachelor's degree, and at least two (2) years of archival collections
management experience and supervisory experience required; Master's degree
or post bachelor's coursework/training in Archives Administration, Library
Science, History, Museum Studies or Records Management preferred. Must pass
background checks.
