The Rogers Historical Museum (Rogers, Arkansas) offers three
traveling exhibits designed especially for small to mid-sized
history museums. The exhibits are now available for booking
in 2005 and 2006, with a few late 2004 slots still available.

The exhibits include photographs, documents, and artifacts;
a slide show with audio tape; and hands-on activities. Each
is accompanied by an activity packet with ideas for educational
programs, a sample press release, publicity photographs, and
exhibition posters and brochures.

Each exhibit covers 60 running feet of space, requires moderate
security, and is available for six-week booking periods (some
double bookings may be available). The participation fee for
each booking period is $500 plus common-carrier shipping to
the next venue.

You can check the exhibits on-line at
www.rogersarkansas.com/museum/travelingexhibits.asp.

“Here Comes the Bride: Weddings in America” explores the
changes in wedding customs over the last two centuries.
The 12-panel exhibition deals with such themes as courtships
and engagements; weddings in early America; 19th- and 20th-
century wedding attire; decorations and gifts; the ceremony;
the honeymoon; royal weddings; ethnic customs; and modern
changes in weddings.

“Let’s Play: Pastimes from the Past” looks at the ways Americans
enjoyed their leisure time at the turn of the 20th century. This
12-panel exhibition looks at topics such as playthings, the
importance of imaginative play, parlor games, the return to
nature, the fitness craze, the role of organized sports, the rise
of the sportswoman, America on wheels, costumes for play, and
the “disease of spectatoritis.”

“What’s Cookin’? Two Centuries of American Foodways” examines
food processing and marketing and the cooking and serving of
food over the past century and a half. The topics for this 12-panel
exhibition include: food in pre-industrial America; the impact of
immigration on food history; the ways the availability of food has
changed because of changes in technology; changes in food
preparation in the home; the increase in dining out; and changing
images of what constitutes healthy eating.
