It isn't exactly the same, but the Huntington Gardens and Library in
San Marino, CA recently (in the past 2 years) changed their admissions
from taking a "voluntary" donation from you, based on the number of
people, but generally quite vague (if you walked in, the guards sometimes
tried to hit you up for money and at other times did not. If all members of
the car looked young and claimed to be students they accepted that)  as
you entered the grounds in your car to charging for admission for all at
the main building before entering the garden/library/museum areas. Now
one can easily just go to the gift shop without being harassed to pay a
"donation," however, for the poor graduate student who would walk in
and wave to the guards it was a shock to the pocket (albeit not too big
as they do have student prices, if I remember correctly).
