I echo the sentiment about moving away from the coasts and/or to smaller
communities.  Indianapolis isn't huge (only about 850,000 in the city limits
and 1.3 million in the very wide metro area), but it is culturally quite
rich.  The cost of living is low, the air is clean, the traffic is
practically nonexistent (well, if you don't count the malls at this time of
year), the people are friendly, and best of all, its museums are growing and
on the move--plenty of opportunity. I'm not even originally from here and
I'm a convert.

You can check out http://www.indyarts.org for the Arts Council of
Indianapolis' website, which has links to most of the cultural resources in
the city.
