David -- I had the same experience at Universal
Studios
in LA. Not getting in free (alas), but being whisked
out of line, along with my husband, 2 children and a
friend and his 2.

We used special entrances and exits and were always
seated first in any rides, or up front in the seats.
I was still on crutches following knee surgery
(recovery took longer than anticipated but we'd
planned the vacation a year earlier and weren't about
to cancel it.)

The VIP treatment was amazing, and it made sense from
a safety/liability standpoint. My friend's son, who
been less than enthusiastic at the start because he'd
been there many times already, told me afterward that
anytime I came back to LA and wanted to tour around
around crutches, he'd be glad to accompany me- LOL.
