Dear Colleagues,

I am researching docent-training programs for my museum as we will be instituting such a program for the first time at our new permanent collection facility. I've searched the archives and found that this conversation has taken place several times during the life of this list - offline, unfortunately. Would any kind souls mind sharing information on their program(s) with me - online or off - , or pointing me to appropriate websites? I am interested in hearing about the basic structure of your program - how long are the docents in training? What is the length and frequency of workshops/classes? How is the content of the "coursework" determined? How large is your corps? - as well as specifics like what kind of incentives (i.e. "Docent of the Year" awards) do you offer to keep your corps motivated? What kind of policies does the museum have regarding volunteer "employment"?

Thank you in advance, dear museum-l'ers, for your generous assistance.

Sincerely,
Sarah R. Thompson
