Dear Jaci, just heard an amazing story from a friend of mine who has written
a wonderful book on Hawaiian Legends that is being published by Univ. of
Hawaii Press. They received the books, in good time for Christmas, and the
Scheduled book signing, but they all smelled so bad, they decided they
couldn't sell them. THe entire lot will be trashed, and it has to be printed
again, now aiming for a January date - missing the entire Holiday season.
Why? Apparently, it was printed in China, and they had fumigated them over
there, to prevent some bugs from entering our country, and either over did
it, or made it too strong...at any rate, it was the fumigant causing the
smell, and apparently there was no way to get the smell out of the books.
This is not, one hopes, a common occurence, but thought you might be
interested.
