Shelley,

Well I wont really recommend one over the other. I have always found (and correct me if I am
wrong) that museum studies is the more technical side of things. It will get you a great job as a
curator, but not necessarily as an educator. I think the real benefit of a public history program
is that it is broad. You will be able to find jobs in a wide variety of places, not just a
museum. If you think that you only want to stay in museums, you might be ok.

Programs in New England or Mid Atlantic...how much do you want to spend? There is a fantastic
masters program at Brown in Rhode Island in Museums. You could go to Northwestern in Botson for a
certificate in Public History. I am sure UMass has something. Of course the Cooperstown program
is the best for museum studies. Someone suggested the AME program at Duquene. If you want to
know more I would contact the National Council on Public History. They can tell you who the good
programs are. Oh, of course the programs in DC are great. George Mason springs to mind first.

Good luck and let me know what else I might be able to expound upon!
Aaron
