Dear List,
I'm accessioning a strange-looking item (I'm sorry I have no picture to
post) which I believe, after researching my correspondence and receipts
from the artist, is a "candle making scop." It is a copper pot in a
hemisphere shape with a handle at the side and four spouts coming from the
straight end of the pot. I cannot find any other information on "scops" or
any similar item used for making candles (likely 17th century English).
The artist has been known to use quaint vernacular terms to refer to other
items, such as "Barber's music box" for a Victorian cylindrical commode.
I'm wondering if he's nicknamed this item as well, and it has a more
technical term.
If anyone has any ideas what this item would be called and used for, I
would be most appreciative.
Thanks in advance for your help.
Best,
Amber
