This has caused such a ruckus, and it's very perplexing.  Both "sides" have
valid points.  Harry was perfectly within his rights to give a farewell to
everyone on the list...imagine what it would be like if he had to track down
the address of everyone he'd been in contact with over the years.  Private
notes to him are another matter.  Think of it in "human" (i.e.
non-electronic) terms.  If someone at the office is leaving after years of a
great relationship, of course he wants to say thanks to as many people at
once as possible.  And of course we'd like to be there to share in that.
But if you have something you'd like to thank him for, it isn't necessary to
relate it to every other person that was at that going away party.  True,
there is the delete button, but....

Harry, I never met you or wrote to you, nor can I recall anything you ever
posted.  But anyone who stirs up this much trouble has got to be
interesting.
