Hello fellow listers,

We are preparing a grant application to have the Drayton family papers
microfilmed. Because of the manuscripts' fragile condition, these papers
have been inaccessible to scholars, both outside and within Drayton Hall. We
see this microfilm project as a way to give the public access to an
important primary resource about 18th- and 19th-century lowcountry
plantation life.

My question is this... would digital imaging and storage on CD-ROM be a
viable alternative to microfilm? Have any of you had good or bad experiences
with digital imaging? Who would you recommend to do the work? What should we
expect to spend to have this done? Would you still microfilm (as a backup
medium)?
