Good Morning,
1.) My Resume is one page and it is useful for providing a quick summary of my 30+ year career. This one pager can easily be attached to grant applications, e-mailed as an attachment, and may be used for introductory purposes (i.e. guest lecturer). The resume states (at the very bottom of the resume...,in very small print.... that a more detailed CV is available on request). As you can imagine, very few people have asked for the CV.
2.) My Curriculum Vitae (CV) is 14 pages and does not provide a quick summary of my 30+ year career. The CV's sole utility is that it goes into excruciating detail.....if details is what the reader wants....then, by golly, they are going to get it. In most instances, most people want a summary, very few people want the details.
3.) If I were applying for a job, and the job announcement called for a resume....I would send the one page resume with the small print at the bottom saying that the 14 page CV was available on request. If they didn't ask for it and I got an interview, I would bring it along to the interview.....just in case. Remember the Boy Scout motto "Be Prepared."
4.) If I were applying for a job, and the job announcement called for a CV....I would send the 14 page CV....and if I got an interview, I would also bring along the Resume....just in case (remember the Boy Scout motto).
I hope this helps,
Best Wishes for Success!
Wesley

After a lengthy absence from this list-serve I am back and wanted to get
people's opinions on resume length.

I had always heard that you should keep your resume to one page, but more
often than not in the art world, I see multiple page resumes.

I assume experience does affect length, but I would like your opinion on
this.
