On May 6 the Peabody Museum of Archaeology and Ethnology opens a
special exhibit with musical accompaniment, "Is Dzan Naadleesh Bi Chaghaa
She: The Children of Changing Woman" - an introduction to the Apache and
their culture. The Apache are a matriarchal society, and the women's
Sunrise Dance, a puberty ceremony, is the thematic focus of the entire
exhibit. Apache men will be represented by Geronimo, who in his capacity
as a medicine man assisted in the Sunrise Ceremony. White Mountain
medicine man Paul Ethelbah will bless the exhibit at a special opening
program.
