Are you on MuseJobs?
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/MuseJobs

I live in the LA area and regularly post information
to the list regarding jobs, internships, volunteer
opportunities, etc. You can check the messages for
last Saturday, 04/05/03. I posted a good chunk of
LA-related information.

You may wish to look at the Los Angeles Times Calendar
section for a list of opportunities. Their Sunday
edition is chock full of information about museum
happenings. You may wish to subscribe to the Pasadena
Star News or at least pick up their paper from time to
time. It's a small paper, but there are often
opportunities where volunteers are needed posted.

There are countless arts institutions in the LA area.
The zoo and aquarium are looking. There are too many
to list. I would suggest you use Roy Hemmat's
Museumstuff http://www.museumstuff.com and search for
museums that way. Countless museums have their
volunteer opportunities on their website.

In addition, you may wish to sign up for the
California listings on http://www.idealist.org
