Position available at the Brazoria County Historical Museum in Angleton, Texas.  Salary is in the mid 40s according to experience. The Brazoria County Historical Museum is located forty-five miles southwest of Houston.  This is a Brazoria County government position, so includes all benefits afforded other County employees: Texas County District Retirement System, the Alternate (I.R.C. 457) Plan (supplemental retirement), medical, dental, sick-leave, vacation, and compensatory overtime (currently hour-for-hour for professionals).

Job Description

JOB TITLE:                      Museum Director

PREREQUISITES:          Degree in History or Museum Studies with successful experience in management (or education and experience equivalent to these requirements).

CLASSIFICATION:         County Department Head.  Performs duties and responsibilities under the immediate supervision of the Board of Trustees and is ultimately accountable to Commissioners' Court as a department head and as an employee of Brazoria County.
ABILITIES
KNOWLEDGE, AND 
EXPERIENCE:             The ability to create a work environment that fosters cooperative efforts and mutual  support among the staff.  The ability to effectively lead and coordinate the work of the staff.  The ability to communicate effectively with the Board of Trustees and to keep the Board apprised of the operation of the Museum.  The ability to communicate effectively with diverse groups and individuals regarding the Museum and its value.  The ability to develop grant proposals.  The ability to understand and interpret the significance of historical events relative to the times of occurrence and to the present.  Previous managerial or supervisory experience is desirable.

 SPECIFIC DUTIES
AND RESPONSIBLE:        Responsible for the day-to-day operation of the Museum in accordance with the policies of the Commissioners' Court and the Museum Board of Trustees.
                                 
Responsible for planning the annual budget in collaboration with the Treasurer of the Board and the presentation of the same to the Court and to the Board of Trustees.

Attends all meetings of the Board and committees of the Board, as requested by the Board or committees, and maintains communication with the Board and committees so as to provide assistance as needed.

Provides financial reports regularly to the Board and other reports as requested.

Responsible for maintaining building security and for communicating maintenance needs to the County maintenance department and to the Board.

Collaborates with and supports the staff in planning and implementing  projects and activities.
                                        
Responsible for the professional development of the staff, supervision of the staff and for annual appraisal of staff performance.

Responsible for preparation of an annual report for submission to the Board and to Commissioners' Court and reports to the Board on ongoing activities and events at meetings of the Board.
         
Supports and assists the Board in fund-raising activities.

Performs other duties and responsibilities that may be appropriately assigned by the Board.
