Dear Listers
(apologies for cross-postings)

We are developing a relational database intended for use by community
researchers to document, share and link information
about heritage sites and the people, objects, documents and stories which
give them meaning.

It is being developed through the Heritage Futures Research Centre at the
University of New England and is being
trialed by a number community and academic projects including a pilot
project titled 'Family Ties' .

The database:

- is cross-platform (uses Filemaker Pro)

- can be used in the field for data entry and can then be put on-line
- consists of 11 linked databases divided broadly into two
  categories:
Profiles (Collections, Local Government Areas, People,
  Sites, Themes, Towns/Cities) and
Items (Artefacts/Objects,
Bibliography, Documents, Images, Maps, Monuments, Oral Histories)

- has multiple relational links between records across the databases

- provides a means to record material which is scattered, for
example, across a variety of collections (public and private) and
  in different forms

We would like to establish contact with people working on similar
or related projects.
