"Keep in mind while Delaware or Yonkers teachers might be making $60K+,there are teachers in the mid-west that top out below $35,000"

I'd like to add that teachers in Manhattan (very expensive!) start out in the low 30's (with a masters) and that right now, teachers without tenure are being laid off all over New York because of serious budget cuts. And class sizes are hovering in the 30-35 students per class range. You'd be amazed at how many bartenders/ waiters are teachers during the day.

3 years of teaching experience with an MA in addition to teaching
experience
without the MA or starting teaching with an MA and now have 3 years of
experience?

Teacher salaries are getting better mainly because teacher shortages are
getting to a critical level and teachers are leaving the field for better
pay
and less stress elsewhere. And they do get more than most museum people
with
comparable experience and education. But compared to salaries in the
corporate
world with the same amount of education and experience, they do lag
behind.
Keep in mind while Delaware or Yonkers teachers might be making $60K+,
there
are teachers in the mid-west that top out below $35,000.

Deb
