Primary Research Group has published the Survey of Library, Museum & Historic Site Preservation Practices, ISBN 978-157440-261-2

This 117 page report is based on data from 55 institutions including museums, libraries, colleges, historic sites and other organizations with major operations in the preservation of rare or historic books, documents, films, audio recordings, photographs, art and sculpture, buildings, machines and other mediums.

The study looks closely at how these organizations run their preservation operations including detailed data on staffing, funding, budgets, grant strategy, employee training, collaborations, equipment purchasing, outsourcing, revenue accrual, marketing, use of social media and the internet, and other facets of managing preservation and restoration operations in libraries, museums, government agencies, historic sites and other organizations.

Just a few of the study’s major findings are that:
•	About a quarter of respondents had some experience with the preservation or restoration of machines.
•	Preservation or enhancement of existing digital formats is an important factor or medium for 30.91% of the organizations in the sample.
•	The mean annual preservation budget for the museums in the sample was $45,250.
•	The larger the organization, the less grant dependent it was, and the higher the percentage of its preservation funding that came from its own budget.
•	21.82% of the organizations sampled have a budget for training and education of employees in conversation and preservation methods.
