Director of Education and Programs
Association of Youth Museums, Washington, DC

The Association of Youth Museums seeks an individual responsible for
developing, implementing, marketing, and managing the educational and
programmatic initiatives of the association.  This is a newly created
position for a qualified candidate dedicated to serving the children's museum
field.  The future holds exciting opportunities for the children's museum
field as we gear up for the 100th anniversary of children's museums in 1999.

There are four specific areas of responsibility:

InterActivity Conference
--The Director of Education and Programs will coordinate the annual
InterActivity conference, including the development of conference content,
development of format, identification of speakers/workshop leaders/etc.

Professional Development Program
--In year one, the Director of Education and Programs will research and
develop a plan for AYM's professional development program.  Possibilities
include pre/post conferences to InterActivity, regional seminars, and
start-up workshops.  Responsible for writing funding proposals to support the
program.

Member Services
--The Director of Education and Programs will serve as a resource for AYM
members by providing technical assistance via telephone.

New Initiatives
--The Director of Education and Programs will work as a team with the
Executive Director to research, develop, implement, and fund new programs and
initiatives designed to assist members in transforming the learning landscape
for children and families.

The successful candidate will meet the following qualifications:
--Five years of program development and management experience including
conference planning.
--Experience working in a children's museum.
--Bachelor's Degree required, Master's Degree preferred.  Degree(s) should be
in museum studies, museum education, human development, education or related
field.
--Excellent writing, editing, and communication skills are required.
 Position also required strong interpersonal skills and the ability to listen
and synthesize information.
--Strong teamwork ethic required.

Salary:  Commensurate with experience, up to high 30's.
