Thought I would respond to one of your questions off-line so as not to
annoy the U.S. crowd with information about which they are fully aware.

Yes, in the U.S. donations of money of objects of value given to a
specific class of "charitable" organizations, are tax deductable on the
donors federal income tax.  Charitable organizations include, among many
others, schools, colleges, libraries, museums, as well as your standard
"help someone" programs.  Most of these are classified as 501(c)(3)
organizations.  That number is an Internal Revenue Service Code under
which all these organizations are listed.  We (us 501(c)(c)
organizations are also exempt from paying taxes on our earnings.  This
includes income taxes and state and local sales and property taxes.  For
instance, my museum owns a good deal of real estate that has been
donated.  It is not taxed.

Ask me some specifics.  I am happy to advise you on this.  Have been
putting together tax-exempt organizations for many years.
