Friend of mine saw this and passed along.  Having no interest in being a director of a
gallery of art, at least for the time being, thought I'd pass it along here.  DO NOT
respond to me, I have no influence at UNI at all, save with a couple of former
professors.  Follow the directions at the bottom of the post.

Director, Gallery of Art:  Position Available:  Director, Gallery of Art of
the Department of Art, University of Northern Iowa, offers a challenging
and rewarding opportunity for a gallery/museum professional with proven
leadership, administrative/curatorial and community relation skills to
direct all aspects of a developing gallery program.  Appointment effective
July 1, 1997 or shortly thereafter.  Salary commensurate with degree and
experience.  Qualifications:  Graduate degree in the fine arts (M.F.A. or
Ph.D. preferred).  Emphasis in the area of art history, arts management,
museum studies, or visual arts required.  Strong knowledge of contemporary
art.  A minimum of two years administrative or curatorial experiece in a
museum/gallery setting preferred.  Responsibilities:  The Director is the
chief administrator of the Gallery of Art and is responsible fro all facets
of the gallery's operations.  Duties include the scheduling and
organization of exhibitions; preparation of grants and fundraising efforts
on the local and national level; the coordination of outreach activities;
the development of strategic and long range operational plans for the
Gallery of Art; the management of the permanent collections; and the
supervision of part-time and student staff.  The Director will also have
the opportunity to develop and teach courses in the areas of ares
management, museum/gallery studies, or other areas of expertise.  The
Director is responsible to the Head of the Department of Art and works
closely with the Department's Eshitition and Permanent Collections
Committee.  Facility:  The Gallery of Art is a not-for-profit gallery that
serves as an educational resource for students of the University of
Northern Iowa and a cultural resource for Cedar Falls/Waterloo and
surrounding communities.  Its programs include approximately eight
temporary exhibitions per academic year and presentations of the
institution's permanent collection.  The gallery is a high security
facility which includes approximately 5,300 square feet of exhibition space
and a well maintained storage and work apce.  The Gallery of Art is a unit
within the Department of Art.  The Department of Art is accredited by the
National Association of Schools of Art and Design.  How to Apply:  The
Department encourages applications from minority persons, women, Vietnam
era veterans and disabled persons.  Applications must be received no later
than Februaru 24, 1997 to be given full consideration.  Candidates should
submit a letter of application; curriculum vita; supporting materials
(catalogs, offprints or samples of writing, documentation of installations,
etc.); transcripts; 3 recent letters of recommendation; the names,
