Vizcaya Collections Care Technician
Salary Entry: 29,822 Maximum: $49,993 Annually

Vizcaya Museum and Gardens is an AAM-accredited, Gilded Age estate in a 
spectacular subtropical setting on Biscayne Bay. Vizcaya consists of 14 
National Historic Landmark buildings on 50 acres of grounds, with 2,500 art 
and 35,000 archival objects. The Main House features lavish interiors 
reflecting a unique interpretation of European history. Vizcaya attracts 
approximately 185,000 guests each year. The Vizcaya Collections Care 
Technician reports to the Vizcaya Collections and Archives Manager and is 
the primary person responsible for the cleaning, care and condition 
monitoring of Vizcaya’s historic interiors and collections.

Responsibilities include hands-on cleaning of furnishings and associated 
decorative objects in historic interiors; assisting Vizcaya Collections and 
Archives Manager in inventory, cataloguing, storage and housing of 
collections materials; developing housekeeping manual for proper care and 
maintenance of historic interiors and collections; advising on condition of 
collections, possible causes of any problems and possible avenues of solving 
problems; and accompanying on-site subcontractors and assists, as needed, in 
conservation treatment of objects. Incumbent will use knowledge of 
professional standards for collections care, may lift objects up to 30 lbs., 
and climb stairs and/or ladders.

Bachelor’s degree in Art, Art History, Museum Studies or related field. 
Additional related experience may substitute for required education on a 
year-for-year basis. Experience in museum environment, such as an intern in 
conservation or curatorial position is highly preferred. Knowledge of care 
of historic objects in wood, paint, metal and ceramics is highly desired.
