The message below is posted on behalf of the Southeastern Library
     Network (SOLINET).

SOLINET is pleased to announce five Preservation Workshops
scheduled for this summer. For further information on any of
these workshops or to register, contact SOLINET's Continuing
Education and Training Department at 1-800-999-8558.

LIBRARY BINDING FOR PRESERVATION will be taught on Thursday,
August 1st, at Faulkner University in Montgomery, Alabama. This
intensive full-day workshop will discuss book structure and modern
book manufacturing methods, an overview of bindery operations, and
offer a practicum in which participants will make binding
decisions to be applied within the library. The session will run
from 9 AM to 4 PM; cost is $85 for SOLINET members, $125 for
     non-members.

HURRICANE PREPAREDNESS: MAKING SURE YOUR INSTITUTION SURVIVES THE
BIG ONE will help you prepare for the hurricane season. This
workshop will be taught on Friday, August 23rd at the Virginia
Beach Public Library. Dr. Michael Trinkley, Director of Chicora
Foundation, will provide information to help increase your
institution's chances of survival and minimize damage during a
hurricane. The workshop runs from 9 AM to 4 PM; cost is $85 for
SOLINET members and $125 for non-members.

Two pest control workshops will be held in September at Francis
Marion University in Florence, South Carolina. On September 26,
BEATING THE CRITTER JITTERS: INTEGRATED PEST MANAGEMENT will help
institutions identify common pests and learn recommended methods
to combat pest problems. This workshop will run from 9 AM to 4
PM; cost is $85 for SOLINET members and $125 for non-members. On
September 27, TO FUME OR NOT TO FUME: ALTERNATIVE FUMIGATION
TECHNIQUES FOR MUSEUMS, LIBRARIES AND ARCHIVES, a half-day
workshop, will continue the discussion with a general introduction
to fumigation and provide in-depth coverage of alternatives to
     chemical fumigation.  The workshop will run from 9 AM to noon;
cost is $60 for SOLINET members and $90 for non-members. Both
courses will be taught by Dr. Michael Trinkley, Director of
Chicora Foundation. A special pricing package is offered for
those wanting to take both workshops: $115 for SOLINET members,
     and $175 for non-members.

FUNDAMENTALS OF BOOK REPAIR, a two-day workshop, will be offered
at East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina, on
September 24 and 25. This workshop is designed for staff members
who actually perform book repair in libraries, and is useful also
to those who supervise repair units. The workshop will teach
staff members how to perform simple, economical and
preservation-quality repairs on materials in general circulating
and reference collections. The workshop will run from 8:30 AM to
5 PM both days, and the total cost is $145 for SOLINET members,
