"Executive/Board Relationships: Effective Working Partnerships"

You are invited to join museum professionals from across California in
Monterey, CA July 11 & 12, 1996 for the California Association of Museums
(CAM) Annual Conference, "Breaking the Mold: Formatting Your Museum for the
Future."  The Conference has been designed to provide all participants with
the opportunity to encounter and explore timely and important topics facing
all museums in California and to meet and interact with their colleagues from
throughout the state. Participants of all areas of operations and types of
museums (from small to large) will find relevant information and stimulating
content.

Day one includes a wide range of topics perennial to the museum field.  Among
the panels are:  "AAM s New Vision Process: Tools for Change in Museums";
"Who s In Charge Here? Roles & Responsibilities: A Board Perspective"; and
"Volunteers: Problems & Solutions - Case Studies".  Day two offers a more
in-depth look at the technological tools which are available to enhance our
missions.  Panels include:  "Getting Connected: Museums & the Internet"; "The
Labyrinth of Technology: How to Plan for the Integration of Interactive
Multimedia Within Your Museum"; and "Virtual Museums: Companions or
Competitors?".

Featured speakers include:  Henry Hopkins,  Director, UCLA Armand Hammer
Museum of Art & Cultural Center; and Dr. James May, Dean, Center for Science,
Technology & Information Resources, California State University, Monterey
Bay.

The Pre-Conference Workshop "Executive/Board Relationships: Effective Working
Partnerships" will be presented by the Museum Trustee Association (MTA) and
is geared for senior staff and trustees of museums.  Participants will gain
insights to maximize the strengths of both arms of governance within museums.
 Workshop participants are invited to a private tour of the new wing of the
Monterey Bay Aquarium given by members of the exhibit design team, and dinner
at the Aquarium s Portola Cafe.  (Additional fee)

Conference attendees will have time to experience Monterey as a model of
cultural tourism.  A progressive dinner and behind-the-scenes tour of the new
wing of the Monterey Bay Aquarium, tour of the historic Customs House,
breakfast at the Monterey Maritime Museum, and a closing reception at the
Monterey Peninsula Museum of  Art - La Mirada are included.  The conference
hotel is the DoubleTree, one of California s most exquisite vacation spots at
the foot of Fisherman s Wharf.  Post-conference activities include a
self-tour of  eleven cultural sites in Monterey County.

Conference registration fees are:  CAM members (before June 19) $215; CAM
members (after June 19) $250; nonmembers (by June 19) $250; nonmembers (after
June 19) $285; Single Day Passes $165 (CAM members and $180 (nonmembers);
full-time students (documentation required) $100.  Pre-Conference Workshop:
 CAM members and nonmembers (before June 19) $75;  CAM members and nonmembers
(after June 19) $90.
