I would assume that the work of art to be hanged in the Vice Chancellor's
residence would be suitably framed and under glass.  In that case, food and
beverage should not be an issue.
 
Anything positive that can be done to enhance your image with resource
allocators, such as the vice chancellor, and to promote your organization
(as with a nicely captioned label to go with the artwork) would be a definite
plus, provided such efforts do not harm your holdings or policies.
