Have any museums created heritage photographic exhibits of their local
communities?

Our small museum (perhaps we should say "tiny" in terms of past
discussion) is embarking on a project to create a photographic exhibit of
local events and people between the 1880's and 1930's. We are attempting
to be as inclusive as possible with respect to the area's different
ethnic groups and aboriginal people. The project calls for supplementing
the museum's collection with photographs loaned/donated by residents of
Manitoulin Island. Our theme is photographs as objects of memory.

We welcome any information about previous local heritage photographic
exhibits: catalogues, experiences of collecting images from local
residents, etc.

Oh, and yes, are there any turn-of-the-century images of Manitoulin
Island in your collections?
