In the sixteen years I've been in the museum business, I have never known a
conservator to refrain from giving advice w/o being paid or contracted to
do so. I have both worked with and worked for conservators. For one to
refuse to advise museum colleagues is contrary to their code of ethics, and
none too professional. Please contact conservators when there are
questions, just as one would contact an entomologist for insect
information, right? I was a registrar for nine years and I still get
questions on topics related to that aspect of the field. I answer them
when I can, refer them to other colleagues when I can't. My point is that
we all recognize that were obligated to help each other. It strengthens
the profession, and the bonds between its members.

PS. I've never been refused marketing or fundraising advice from those
folks either. Never be afraid to ask questions.
