The National Mississippi River Museum & Aquarium (a property of the Dubuque County Historical Society) in Dubuque, Iowa, is pleased to announce an opening for Director of Marketing & Communications.

Staff Reporting To This Position:           Assistant Marketing Manager, interns, volunteers
Works Mainly With:                              Vice President of Development, Director of Sales & Guest Services
Key Responsibilities 
The Director of Marketing and Communications will promote awareness of the properties of the Dubuque County Historical Society, including its National Mississippi River Museum & Aquarium and Mathias Ham Historic Site, via various tactics—media relations, both traditional and digital, marketing and advertising—to reach target audiences. 
Specifically, he/she will: 
•	Work with the Museum CEO, senior management team, and staff to establish goals, marketing initiatives, and measuring tools that support and further the strategic direction of the Museum. 
•	Develop, implement, and evaluate the annual marketing & communications plan. 
•	Develop, implement, and evaluate a marketing strategy for leading a fast-moving, richly diverse menu of events, programs, updates and audiences. 
•	Direct efforts to expand public access, develop new audiences, and multiply messaging opportunities using a variety of resources including integrated digital content such as target marketing, blogs, social media, video, podcasts, and other digitally based communications tools. 
•	Actively engages, cultivates and maintains media relationships in high-profile local, regional and national media to ensure awareness of Museum exhibitions, special events, fundraising efforts and other projects. Manages all press requests and maintains media database. 
•	Direct a consistent brand and voice across all platforms to the highest standard for consistent messaging, graphic design, tone and visual identity for both internal and external communications. 
•	Monitors, measures, analyzes and tracks the effectiveness of marketing initiatives, optimizing efficiencies for the organization as a whole and adjusting strategies as needed. 
•	Leverage, seek out and support partnerships for maximum benefit to the organization. 
•	Oversees the development of marketing budgeting, reporting and vendor management for all communications activities. 
•	Create and assess metrics to gauge and evaluate the effectiveness and impact of marketing activities and prepare routine reports that detail these activities.
•	Prepare information regarding the Museum for presentation to its public constituents.
•	Seeks out and supports partnerships (Visitors Bureaus, Chamber of Commerce, State Tourism, Dubuque CVB, Smithsonian, Port of Dubuque, etc.)
•	Publicly represent the organization as needed, including but not limited to appearances in print, radio, television and other promotional opportunities. 
•	Creates and maintains marketing deadlines as they relate to exhibitions, programmed events, and major fundraising events. 
•	Writes and distributes press releases, media invites, media alerts and public service announcements for all museum news, including press kits, print, radio, television, and other promotional opportunities. 
•	Build, mentor, and lead the communications and marketing team to deliver on the institutional marketing plan, including supervision of the work of the Assistant Marketing Manager, interns and volunteers.
•	Provide crisis communications counsel as needed. 
•	Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Journalism or a related field is required. Five or more years of communications and marketing experience. Supervisory experience preferred. Superior writing, editing and verbal communication skills are a must. Familiarity with graphic design trends and high quality aesthetics desired.

This is a full time, permanent position. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience.
