Hi Ramona!

Wow, that's a new twist!  I wonder why she is requesting the change, even though she does not want the pieces back and she believes her heirs will not want them. The basic issue is, as I see it, that if you were to make the gift into a loan, you would have to deaccession it first. Generally, deaccessioning policies state that the objects should not go back to the donor, but should be placed in another museum or sold through public auction.  Additionally, if she were allowed to change the gift into a loan, what would happen upon her eventual demise?   I hope she will listen to reason - keep us posted on what happens!
