The 1995 conference of the Museum Computer Network will be held jointly=20
with the Third International Conference on Hypermedia and Interactivity=20
in Museums (ICHIM).  The meetings will be held at the Hotel del Coronado=20
in San Diego on October 9-13, 1995. =20
 
The following request for proposals is issued by the Museum Computer=20
Network and focuses on areas covered by the Special Interest Groups of=20
the Museum Computer Network.  The deadline for submitting proposals is=20
November 1, 1995. =20
 
ICHIM issued a separate call for participation that focuses on issues and=
=20
projects relating to the use of hypermedia and interactivity in museums. =
=20
The deadline for submitting to ICHIM is October 1, 1994 (today).
 
Conference information including the preliminary program will be=20
distributed early in 1995.  If you would like conference information but=20
are not submitting a proposal, please send your name, address, and=20
telephone numbers to me at the address listed below or by email.

THE CONFERENCE
 
MCN '95, the annual conference of the Museum
Computer Network, will be held in conjunction=20
with ICHIM '95, the third international conference=20
devoted entirely to the exploration of hypermedia=20
and interactivity in museums. =20
 
The conference will convene in San Diego, California=20
on October 9-13, 1995.
 
The focus of MCN '95 =A5 ICHIM '95  is on museums. =20
Technology, legal and economic issues, design concerns and=20
commercial implications will all be discussed from the=20
perspective of museum applications.  Museum educators=20
and exhibit designers, commercial designers involved with=20
museums, and researchers concerned with the presentation=20
of hypermedia and interactive products in public, mixed=20
audience settings such as museums will comprise the=20
majority of the audience.  They will be joined by=20
hypermedia researchers, software engineers, publishers,=20
archivists, and librarians. =20
 
We would very much like to consider your proposed papers, sessions and
project demonstrations.  All proposals will be refereed.  All papers will
be due in publishable form in English no later than July 1, 1995, and will
be published in the proceedings distributed to all participants at the
conference.=20
 
Commercial vendors with products for interactive multimedia installation,
publication or presentation are invited to participate in the two day
product exhibition.=20

INSTRUCTIONS FOR PROPOSING PAPERS
 
Proposals should be full papers or extensive abstracts
(1000+ words).  A cover page must contain the title of the=20
paper, author(s) names(s) and affiliation(s) with postal,=20
e-mail and fax addresses.  Each page should have the title
and page number in a header.  Authors must agree to
publication in the conference proceedings.
 
 
 
INSTRUCTIONS FOR PROPOSING PANELS
 
Proposals should include a description of the topic
of the panel in 300-500 words, the names, addresses and
affiliations of proposers, chair and speakers, and the titles
of speakers' talks.  Proposals must indicate whether
speakers are confirmed or only suggested.  Speakers must=20
agree to publication  of prepares remarks in the=20
conference proceedings.
 
 
INSTRUCTIONS FOR PROPOSING MUSEUM=20
PROJECT DEMONSTRATIONS
 
Non-commercial demonstrations will be held to display
museum projects.  Proposals should include the project
title, titles of products to be demonstrated, a description
of the project objectives and achievements, the names of=20
project sponsors and of all organizations and individuals
conducting the project.  Proposals must indicate the=20
museum staff member who will conduct the
demonstration, the teaching objectives of the=20
demonstration, and the audio-visual requirements for=20
the demonstration.  Demonstrators must agree to submit
abstracts for the conference proceedings.
 
Proposals must be received by November 1, 1994.
