Are you a student working on museum education-related research? Do you
know someone who is?

To celebrate the start of the fall term, MUSEUM EDUCATION MONITOR (MEM),
the monthly e-newsletter, is compiling a list of museum
education/interpretation research projects currently being undertaken by
students at any level of higher education. This could include research
being done for a major paper, an honours-level thesis, masters thesis,
dissertation, internship, etc.

To assist with this research, MEM will provide a free, one year
introductory subscription, including access to the MEM Archives, to any
student currently enrolled in a museum education-related course or
program anywhere in the world. If you qualify, contact me at
[log in to unmask] to register.

Of course, we continue to welcome research listings by museum workers,
volunteers, consultants, faculty members, and others!

If you wish to share your research or evaluation with others around the
world, please send an e-mail to [log in to unmask] that includes:
- name of project
- research/evaluation question(s)
- how the data will be presented
- principal researcher(s)/ evaluator(s)
- site(s) where research is being conducted
- time span
- contact information
- key words/labels to describe the project

All listings are free of charge and displayed in their language of
origin. Deadline for the MEM October issue is Friday October 10, 2008

FYI, the following research projects were listed in MEM, September 2008:
- High School Students Deconstructing the Art Museum: Written Art
Interpretations (USA)
- Teen program at Sheldon Museum of Art (USA)
- Promoting Empathy and Diversity Appreciation among Children in an
Interactive Museum of Tolerance on a college campus (USA)
- Where Do Museums Fit In? An In-Depth Study at the Museum of Peoples
and Cultures (USA)
- Current trends in Museum Education in the Netherlands: 1996-2007 (NL)
(Museumeducatie in de praktijk. Trendrapport Museumeducatie 2007)
- Battleship Wisconsin Visitor Expectations: Formative Evaluation to
Assist in Exhibit Development (USA)
- Summative Evaluation of CSI: The Experience (USA)
- Us and Them (UK)

A complimentary copy of this Museum Education Monitor, September 2008,
or a guest research pass to the MEM Archives to review back issues are
both available upon request to [log in to unmask] . Research listings are
also available on the MEM Forum http://forum.mccastle.com/.

Please get in touch for more information about this call or to discuss
your research. I look forward to hearing from you!

(Please excuse cross-postings. I try to extend the call as widely as
possible. Inevitably many of us are subscribed to several electronic
discussion lists related to museum education. For those who are, your
patience is appreciated. CC.}
