AAM's Information Center will share sample Collecting Plans with its
members. We obtained a couple of examples from them last year as we were
in the process of drafting our own new policies. I believe that Cindy Goh,
Knowledge Manager, is the one who handles document requests. The only
drawback, as I saw it, was that most of the samples AAM had available were
for art museums. They were, at the time, still working on permissions for
the history-related ones. Just FYI. Though much of the language was
useful most art museums' approaches were very different from what a history
or sciences museum's would be. Nevertheless, AAM is an excellent resource
as always.

I would also encourage you to get in touch with our colleagues at The Henry
Ford. They have implemented a fascinating TEAM, "thematic" approach to
collecting. We considered utilizing the same approach here. You would
have to find out from The Henry Ford itself just how effective this
approach has been. Also, we don't know if exists as a written policy or as
individual, proposed institutional "projects."

Happy Holidays,

Jeremy T. Chrabascz, Curator of Furnishings
