There are varying points of view on observing totality of a solar eclispe.
However, Nora makes the same point.  The best bet is to play it safe and
just don't do it, even with a total eclipse.   Her suggested methods are
sound.  Beware of scratches in the welding glass.  They can diminish the
protection.
