American Federation of Arts announces
FIRST ANNUAL CURATORS FORUM
April 29 - May 1, 2001 in New York City
Keynote Speaker: Philippe de Montebello

As you know, significant changes in the definition and function of art
museums are reshaping the traditional role of curators. Cultural influences
and economic demands have changed the way exhibitions are interpreted and
marketed. While the profession assumes greater administrative
responsibilities, the challenge to balance curatorial, institutional, and
professional priorities has become more complicated.

The goal of the Curators Forum is to engender a professional exchange,
disseminate knowledge and experience within the field, and facilitate a
dialogue that will continue beyond the conference. This will be accomplished
through a lively program featuring speakers, panel discussions, and a
workshop from Sunday, April 29 - Tuesday, May 1 at The National Arts Club
and the Whitney Museum of American Art.

The fee is for this conference is $275 for AFA members and $325 for
non-members. The three-day program includes all conference materials,
selected meals, and special evening events.

Please note that the Curators Forum is not an association or membership
group and will not endorse standards, guidelines, or policies of
professional practice. The program is open to curators from non-profit art
museums and galleries of all sizes. Assistant and independent curators, and
directors of institutions, who also serve in a curatorial capacity, are not
eligible.

For more information, please e-mail us the following: your name, title,
institution, address, and phone number.
