We are creating a new exhibit on the work of Dr. William Beaumont, the 1820's post surgeon who learned about the process of human digestion by experimenting on his famous patient Alexis St. Martin. St. Martin had a permanent hole into his stomach as a result of a gunshot wound.

We want to create a hands-on display of a human torso that allows children to understand the unusual nature of St. Martin's wound and how this provided Beaumont with an opportunity for direct experimentation. Perhaps some of you with science museums can suggest exhibit designers/fabricators who are capable of creating this type of display.

Many thanks,

Phil Porter, Chief Curator
MACKINAC STATE HISTORIC PARKS
