The Minneapolis Institute of Arts offers many opportunities for
volunteer internships. Individuals considering a career in museum work
or have relevant skills, interests, or experiences are eligible to
apply.

Internships may range in length from one to twelve months, with a
minimum time commitment of twenty hours per week. Most interns work and
average of 30 hours per week over a four-month period. Interns are
typically placed within a single department and have project -oriented
responsibilities. The scope of the intern experience is broadened by the
opportunity to attend informational sessions regarding the various
functions, programs, departments, and staff within the museum setting.
In addition, interns at The Minneapolis Institute of Arts become members
of the staff community and attend departmental and museum-wide meetings.

The availability of internships is dependent on the needs of individual
departments throughout the year. Staff and space availability,
exhibition schedules, and the number of challenging projects limit the
number of available internships. Internships may be open in any of the
museum's departments, including but not limited to Curatorial,
Education, Development, and External Affairs.

All complete applications will be considered. Interns are placed on an
individual basis as met by availability of appropriate projects.

The application deadlines are:
March 1 For internships beginning in May or June (summer)
June 1 For internships beginning in September (fall/winter)
October 1 For internships beginning in January (winter/spring)

A complete application includes the form, which includes a short essay
question, a recent resume, all academic transcripts (student copies are
acceptable), and two letters of recommendation (academic recommendations
are preferred. Professional recommendations will be accepted when the
experience is relevant to the internship.).

Application forms can be found on our web site:
